Out of solutions to beat the heat? Perhaps a fresh haircut or an updo will do the trick. Hairstylist Martha Lynn Kale, last year's Austin Fashion Awards winner for Best Hairstylist (People's Choice) and Best Women's Cut (Critics' Choice), has opened her own salon, Mirror Mirror (4410 Burnet Road. 420-8868, The Kérastase consultant salon offers haircuts for men and women starting at $45 and $65 respectively. Mirror Mirror offers makeup services, massage, waxing, facials, brow and lash tinting, eyelash treatments, color treatments and bridal services. Also, Kale has a hutch of her favorite things that will change seasonally. Included in the mix now is the BaByliss PRO Volare hair dryer, Aquage hair brushes, CHI by Farouk teasing brushes and OPI nail polish.

    When Martha Lynn Barnes invited me to her new salon, Mirror Mirror, for a cut and highlights, I was a little nervous — I'm pretty particular about my hair! But, Martha Lynn has worked at José Luis, one of my favorite salons in town, as well as Luxe Apothetique. She is also a stylist for fashion shoots, weddings and more, and her website,, showcases a variety of her work, so I could take a peek before arriving. She has styled for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Ballet Austin, the Home Shopping Network and BMW of Austin, to name a few.

    Designed by Architect Becky Jeanes and Interior Designer Erin Cook, Mirror Mirror, boasts a warm and welcoming interior, with shabby chic accents in the comfortable lounge area. And, of course, each stylist station is furnished with an oversized mirror that looks like it is straight out of Snow White.
